Rothy’s founder and de Young heir lists Pacific Heights mansion as family moves to Texas

On Monday, William Roth Martin, an heir of the de Young family and co-founder of the eco-friendly shoe brand Rothy’s, listed his San Francisco mansion for $15.5 million.

The details of the property

5 bedrooms

4.5 bathrooms

7288 sq ft

4125 sq ft lot

3 parking spaces

The 1908 residence at 2312 Pacific Ave., located in the city’s exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood, comes to the market as Martin plans to move to Texas, where he and his wife, Emily, plan to renovate a century-old house built by her great-grandfather in San Antonio’s suburbs.

“We are redoing a 100-year-old house. It was the next chapter and something that will be fun for the two of us,” Martin said in a statement.

The San Francisco mansion, designed by renowned architect Stephen Volpe, spans four stories and features extensive renovations.

The Martins, who purchased the 7,300-square-foot property for $8.75 million in 2020, overhauled its interiors, upgrading systems such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical while installing custom windows and doors.

The kitchen was fully remodeled with new cabinetry and appliances, and all five fireplaces were rebuilt with herringbone brick and antique mantels. The home also boasts a completely redesigned primary staircase.

Martin, a gallerist who co-founded Rothy’s in 2016, has been integral to the company’s rise, which reached a $1 billion valuation in December 2021. The brand’s innovative use of recycled materials for shoes is credited with reshaping the fashion industry.

He also comes from one of San Francisco’s oldest families: the de Youngs, founders of the San Francisco Chronicle and the de Young Museum.

“San Francisco is a boom and bust city — we always have been,” Neal Ward, the home agent listing the property, said in a statement. “From January through March, sales of San Francisco homes priced at $10 million and up hit $191 million, compared with $64 million during the same period in 2024. More buyers are out there wanting to purchase and feeling good about what’s happening here.”
